ok, let's see...

i decided to start a blog, because there is something i'd like to share with you... sit back and read :-)
couple months back, a guy named G.P. pm'ed me regarding my very first youtube video shown below.

he was interested in making a track with the melody i created in this video and claimed if the track gets ever released, he will give me credit (of course) :)
i saw it as a challenge so i recorded it as a MIDI file (with a bit of trouble), also rendered the final audio file and sent everything to him (i still got all the emails that we exchanged)... well i was excited and curious how will the track sound and told him that i want be the first person that will hear the demo... "no problem", said G.P.
after a couple of weeks i got message from G.P. saying that Thomas Bronzwear (i'm pretty sure that if you like uplifting trance music, you're familiar with his name) claims that the melody is his and the label refused to release the track... "oh, well" i said to myself... at least i tried :-)
today, while chatting with G.P. who told me that the melody is really strong but it won't be released due the Thomas Bronzwear issue, i decided to do a little research and guess what i found... (go figure)
track called "the republic" by G.P. released on vandit digital has been played by paul van dyk and several dj's without my permission (or at least notification) or given credit.
see videos below
(for the pvd set, you will have to rewind to 9:40)

well, now i'm confused... should i be happy that my melody was transformed into a track that was being played by paul van dyk, or should i be very pissed off that some guy fooled me and stole something that i created...?

i will greatly appreciate if you leave me a comments or send me message to let me know what do you think as well as let gary proud know what do you think about his way of making music (and money)...
and btw. my video has been uploaded on jan06.2008 and as far as i know "the republic" was released on may07.2009
i'm not going to make an big issue of it... i just wanted show how the showbussiness is just hunt for the money and people get easily spoiled with it. it's not about music as an art anymore... i'm living example (i'm not the spoiled one :-) ).
laters...

  3. feelda303> why dont u fight for your rights? If u still have all emails, all authentic videos, all wave files, simply all stuff about this isue go and do something. Make your author copyrights on this melody. there must be some organization in your country for this issues. gl mirinko

  4. Dude, I've been watching your stuff on youtube for the longest and I've decided to check your myspace out then I saw this link. Before I go ranting on about this matter, I would like to say that you're freakin amazing bro. It makes me wonder why you arn't even signed to a label?

Anyways, morally the GP guy should get punched in his noggin for such dishonest action but legally, you can't really do anything about it. Reasons why because you guys had a verbal agreement, you decided to send him all the midi file and what not. What you should've done was copyrighted the melody or make him fill out a contract swearing he would give you credit. I don't really know how the law stuff works around where you live but let this be a lesson to you, don't trust these talentless pricks who steal other people's hard work for a living, they're the worst kind.

On the bright side though you should very well be flattered since it is your melody and its getting play in clubs by DJs. I hope you get what you deserve my friend and hopefully that GP guy gets his (like getting hit by a damn bus..lol jk).

  5. Hey Feelda, why not consider the track a collaboration between the two of you and split it 50-50.
From what I see you've worked together to the produce and write the track.
If you can resolve the issues between the two of you and keep the partnership going and keep producing killer tracks. Its obvious that you have some great lines and GP seems to understand how to assemble the ideas into a track.
I think you feel scorned, but the truth is the two of you worked together.

  6. Ummm.. First off your stuff kicks so much ass not even kidding. Second off you got ripped the hell off. and PVD was sold the rights by G.P. i've beenaround lawyers enough, and not for bad reasons i fight to keep my films unstolen, and that you should b able to win this hands down especially since you hve video evidence. Now i know that you dont want to make a huge fuss over it but still you should stand up for your rights. thats all i have to say.

  12. Sorry to hear about all this mess feelda303... I'm a big fan and part time aspiring musician and stuff like this ruins it for those who want to reach out and work with other people.

I hope you don't let this stop you from creating music we (including you) all enjoy. Don't let anybody steal your joy.

    :)

  13. Well I haven't heard the whole track but yeah it sounds very much like yours. The backing rythm or baseline is almost exact except at the begining of the 25 th beat itaintains it's progression it does not change like yours woch I actually like urs better but it's these small changes that legaly allows pretty much anyone to use music on whatever way they want. Have u ever seen when they make a parody of something the use a really popular song that us undeniable that it's that song but they change it just a bit enough that well. It legally isn't. That's what I think u have to face bro. This really sucks cuz I would be soooooooo beyond pissed if this happened to me. I produce trance myself and I can only imagine how u must feel w so
e other bastard taking ur glory. I really hope u obtain retribution cause u deserve it. JIM

  14. Ok, I know that this topic is really old. But first off, the Link that GP posted above sends you to a blank blog. I don't know if it ever had anything or if he simply removed it sometime between last year and now.. For what it's worth Feelda. I've listened to some of your stuff on your youtube channel. For the most part I very much like what I hear, but I won't say that I've heard a ton so I am not much of a good judge.

Still, The corporate show business is going to back stab you whenever it can. That is a fact of life, this is why so many artists are beginning to pick up on the art of independent production. Buy a CD burner, and lots of CD's. Or contact a web publishing group that does CD's. Or if you aren't interested in the money aspect as much and are more into openly sharing your talents, check out Jamendo.com and get a creative commons license on your work, you can get at least an audience pretty quickly. Hell, I'd donate to you.

The fact that someone thought your stuff was good enough to rip off and play on stage in front of hundreds of screaming fans, that is a testament that you have the skills and talent to succeed in the music business so long as you just go for it with your all. If you don't believe me, Just look at some of the artist who have made it, like Pogo, Imogen Heap, and my other favorites, Alexander Blu, Matti Paalanen, Loomeer, and slightly out of the genre of ambient and new age music, Others like Josh Woodward, and others still. but it would be redundant to continue naming..

Best of luck my friend.. I'm waiting.

  15. Hey man, I know this all came about a while ago but I wanted to share my thoughts about this issue of stealing music. First of all, be proud that PvD played YOUR track that YOU made. No one can take that away. Second, I'm sure if PvD and Vandit Digital knew the story behind the events, the label would be really pissed off and have a low level of respect for the person who stole it. But I'm guessing there is no way for them to have found out and by the time the track was released it was already too late to really do anything about. The life of a song is so short, it's water under the bridge sooner rather than later. The important thing to know is you wrote a great, respectable track. PvD and the Vandit label obviously liked it. The whole thing with G.P. is really a separate issue and G.P. is the one you should be angry with, but now you know never to do business like this again. I've seen people hand off entire work just to have it stolen from them. My wife is a photographer and one day she was trying to something nice for her client and sent a PDF proof and forget to watermark it. Well, the client took it and printed it themselves and never ordered the photo album from her or paid her for her time to design it. Lesson learned for all of us.
